I just translated the subtitles on my dvd from Dutch to English.
In 03:13, where the sub is written as “Donnie rose up to the occasion”, the director actually made a Let the Bullet Fly pun. The actual words he said is “Jiang Wen has come to let Donnie (which sounds similar to bullet in mandarin) fly” XDDD
