About your Wonder Woman post: Honestly… it’ll be good if it doesn’t get advertising and recognition because I’m tired of the Hollywood industry casting white people for PoC roles. Wonder Woman is supposed to be a PoC woman, not a white one

Wonder Woman is a Greek Demigoddess though… I’ve never known Greeks to consider themselves People of Color? My cousins are Greek and they’re considered white… I’m tired of Hollywood whitewashing PoC roles as well, but as far as I know Wonder Woman was never considered a person of color? I’ve looked it up and I can’t find anything on the subject and I’ve asked a few of my friends who are PoC and into comics and they say she’s white, so I really have no idea what to say here but that I would’ve loved to have seen a WoC play WW (preferably Priyanka Chopra because GIIIIIIIRL…)

Well, not really. We don’t consider ouselves “white people”. But i don’t htink any of us would use the term POC either. Because, POC is a specific term used in the US for a specific purpose. To differentiate between black and non black people. The term came to include Asians people and brownskinned people because of the discriminations based on their physical appearance.

So i think a lot of us and a lot of middle eastern people  wouldn’t really use the term  lightly, because you wouldn’t face the same kidn of discrimination at first sight, that a back person would (that is bsed purely on looks no culture)

Now…in greece…and generally in these parts, this takes a different meaning.

You have to know that Xenophon described the Persians as pale white skinned compared to the skin colour of greek troups (he fought in the Greek-Persian wars) but we know that othe Persian and Greeks are considered caucasian.

Then you have to go find what caucasian actually means. The main use of the term is todescribe people of the Caucasus…so that includes most of Eurasian people , most of Middle eastern people, as well as all Europeans.

There’s a lot of misconception about the Greeks which starts from our culture being appropriated by the Romans and later on bythe Western Europeans , esp due to the fact that after whatever was left of Ancient Greece as taken by Romans and then by Ottomans, so Rome and Italy were considered (mostly by themseves) as a continuation of that cultures and as the heirs of ancient greece, and then went on to base the built of the entire western world on that notion.

It just..all takes a fucked up kind of turn because of weird politics of the times.

In ANy case we don’t consider ourselves or our culture "white” in the way maybe the US nationalists and fascists  would use the term to mean “nnordic white” to exclude groups of people, but we don’t have concerns about colour asmuch?

We’re been mixed and merged overtime andyou have people of several skin types and facial structures that are equally considered greek. Usually people have olive skin and dark or light brown hair but..that means nothing really.

What i would personaly hate would be to see wonder woman treated as the Greeks were treated inthe shit that is “300″ (not only for incorrectly depicting Persians AND Greeks but also for fucking up the Spartan culture) or “Troy” tht just is plain ol Holywood “whitewashing” in the literal and metaphorical  term of the word.

In any case, even though Gal Gadot isn’t greek, she’s from “our parts’ of the globe, meaning she looks perfectly fine for the role and if she alked in the street here she’d be seen as greek not as a tourist so…i guess that’s something!

ps. Amazons weren’ Spartants, but they were said to be people from whom the Spartans originated or at least owed their culture to.
