A series of photographs by Piotr Sikora, created in collaboration with Piotr Bondarczyk, depicting Polish folk costumes in the context of contemporary multi-ethnicity. The project deals with the recent changes taking place in Polish society, which became almost entirely homogeneous after the Second World War when communism took the country in control and which is today experiencing a groundbreaking openness towards other cultures.

Another photo project I can recommend is ‘Za fasadą folkloru’ / ’Behind the Facade of Folklore’. It’s an ongoing project coordinated by Angelika Dobrzyńska (member of ‘Katowice’ Song and Dance Ensemble), and photographed by Szymon Nawrat.
The models are mostly foreign exchange students living in Poland, wearing various Polish costumes.
Allen from China wearing Łowicz costume.
Somntath from India wearing Kraków costume.
Safa, Tuğba and Ali from Turkey wearing Opoczno costumes.
Katarina from Montenegro wearing Łowicz costume.
Zauresh from Kazakhstan wearing Kraków costume.
Nwokoye from Nigeria wearing Silesian miners’ costume.
Luis and Leticia from Spain wearing costumes of Cieszyn and Pszczyna.
Jajo from Taiwan wearing Krosno costume.
This is all so beautiful!!!!!!
I NEVER see anyone giving a shit about the cultural dress of my people so like… wow. this is overwhelmingly beautiful!!! Poland has such gorgeous traditional clothing and I wish it were appreciated more.
Seeing stuff like this actually makes me feel positive about my Polish heritage. My great-grandparents left because of the homogeneity….
