The alternative names don’t hold the same meaning and significant as they used to be. Nowadays only some writers use alternative names but they are more like pseudonym then actual 字 (adult name given when a person reached adulthood and is used as the formal name to be used socially) or 號 (side name picked by the person themselves usually to reflect their interest).
I’ve never thought about the idea of cybertronians using alternative names but I love it and it gave me many ideas XD
I think since cybertronians’ legal names are usually given to them to reflect their function, those with form dysphoria might dislike their names and want to use another name that reflect who they really are more.
I’d imagine the rejection of legal names and the (secret) usage of an alt name being an rebellious and political act in the functionist universe. The rebels contact each others with alt names not only as an act to repel the functionist idea but also work as a pseudonym for security reasons (this might be rendered useless alter the functionist government took extreme surveillance method).
