[This post has been gaining more traction so I thought might as well edit with a more complete version of the thread]
Pablo Hidalgo: 1/ Head’s up. Incoming tweetflood full of unsolicited views about the Force. About 14 or 15 tweets. Bear with me.
Pablo Hidalgo: 2/ A colleague of mine recently stated that everyone has and uses the Force. Which raised questions in some, but it’s nonetheless true.
Pablo Hidalgo: 3/ The Force is life. If you’ve ever felt a moment of connection with another or your world, you’re using it. That’s the idea.
Pablo Hidalgo: 4/ You can disbelieve in it, but still have it. I’m sure Ol Ben would attribute Han’s amazing piloting & “luck” to the Force. Han wouldn’t.
Pablo Hidalgo: 5/ For gamers, note that I think every incarnation of the RPG gave Force Points to everyone, regardless of “Force-sensitivity”
Pablo Hidalgo: 6/ Eg. we would cite is Bruce Lee. In our world, he would be someone more attuned to the Force than most, hence his remarkable abilities.
Q1: Great stuff. Given this great reference, how do you resolve the Chirrut description stating that he “lacks Force abilities”?
Pablo Hidalgo: It would seem like shorthand for him not being able to do things like telekinesis, mind manipulation, etc.
Pablo Hidalgo: 7/ It’s not just physical abilities. Those who can sway large numbers of people for good or for bad are tapping into a connectivity.
Pablo Hidalgo: 8/ I can see the case made that exceptional minds of all kinds – Einstein, Hawking, Newton – are tapping into a world most can’t see.
Pablo Hidalgo: 9/ I think people understandably got caught up in the whole midi-chlorian thing. They thought you must have X no. of midis to use the Force.
Pablo Hidalgo: 10/ No, the midi-prereq was to enter the prequel-era Jedi Order. It’s a rather soulless way to look at potential, by narrative design.
Q2: So when Lucas wrote the prequels, that’s what he had in mind, eh? Color me skeptical
Pablo Hidalgo: The prequel trilogy is all about the Jedi being beholden to a system, not individuals. That’s their downfall.
Q3: Makes me think of Satine’s chat w Obi Wan in The Mandalore Plot: ideals losing to political convenience. And she was right imo
Q3: Granted, I’m referring to politics here vs the Jedi order but by the prequel era they seemed irrevocably intertwined
Pablo Hidalgo: Oh agreed!
Q4: I like it but there was very little to nothing in the narrative to suggest that.
Pablo Hidalgo: I dunno. I see a lot of deference to a system at the expense of an individual in those movies.
Q4: some, but even Qui-Gon who was pretty rebellious relied on the midichlorians for Anakin’s potential.
Pablo Hidalgo: As much as he may have rebelled at some ideas, he’s still a product of that system. Young Obi-Wan didn’t like the idea of aliens
Pablo Hidalgo: 11/ The prequel Jedi have systemized their methods at the expense of spirituality and intuition. They are more ‘Order’ than ‘Jedi.’
Q5: Where do you think Yoda and Obi-Wan fall on this? I get the feeling in TPM they are more Order and by ANH are more Jedi.
Pablo Hidalgo: Yeah, I think as survivors with almost two decades to reflect, they learned a lot.
Q6: The Jedi trained Luke. But I think Luke humbled them & showed they didnt know what was best for him by end of ROTJ
Pablo Hidalgo: The most Jedi thing Luke did was throw away his lightsaber. His strength is compassion.
Pablo Hidalgo: 12/ Characters like Jocasta Nu and Ki-Adi-Mundi embody that. Others like Dooku, Qui-Gon and Anakin don’t.
Pablo Hidalgo: 13/ But there’s more to the Force than just Jedi/Sith. There’s more to potential than midis. Just like there’s more to genius than grades.
Q7: Problem: Qui-Gon was the one who asked for the Midichlorian count, which is the less spirtual way to go.
Pablo Hidalgo: He’s still a Jedi of that era.
Q8: alright I’ll ask you the existential question, does the light side and the dark side of the Force have opposing wills?
Q8: does the dark side seek suffering? Does the light side seek serenity?
Pablo Hidalgo: deep. I think it’s one Force, but the path one takes to it can’t help but shape the view of it.
Pablo Hidalgo: 14/ All right that’s enough Force food for thought. I’ll return to maddening non-observations about Snoke as requested.
Q9: soo… Does the force have a consciousness? Like the Ring in LOTR?
Pablo Hidalgo: some people think it has a will.
Q9: we talking in universe or out?
Pablo Hidalgo: Both. Qui-Gon talked about the will of the Force a lot.
Q10: thanks for that write up. Very interesting. How would you qualify someone as “force sensitive” in this paradigm?
PH: it seems to me what level of control, extension and awareness of this ability there is.
Q11: Let me ask though..is everything you describe invented by Lucas or the Story Group after he left. Just curious if that’s how
PH: It’s taking his ideas. He went really deep during Clone Wars.

Pablo Hidalgo: I’m gonna rip off @BradBirdA113 and say ‘not everyone can become a Jedi, but a Jedi can come from anywhere’ 🙂
@redrikki have you seen this?
