We were told that Han and Leia were great parents, who just wanted the best for their son. And now she neglected him for the ‘cause’? I’m truly confused.
Seriously this is the worst thing you could have done to Leia’s character even after you killed her husband and overwrote her happy ending: make her into the sexist “career mother who failed her children by being too focused on her work” trope.
Everything we know thus far indicated that Leia only went fully into politics once Ben was with Luke and she kept talking to him every chance she got even though it was difficult, and now we’re saying “Oh yeah she never had time for her son.” bullshit. Neo-nazis didn’t become that way to fill a whole in their lives, but out of their own personal flaws. Stop trying to pin this on Leia.
I just can’t feel it as an understandable reason for Ben to turn dark side. But Anakin’s downfall felt stupid to me in the prequel movies too because it’s done too fast so you can’t really see his transition, only that he acted like an arrogant, immature jerk. I don’t really feel his conflict until the Clone Wars cartoon showed the serious flaws in the Jedi Order and the Rebuplic system, and how Palpatine was constantly affecting Anakin who’s struggling in war time (which made his change more understandable because cruel shits happened in the show). So I guess I’ll wait and see how they handle this in TLJ? But I don’t have too much hope for them to make it complicate *shrugs*
It would be interesting if we see a somewhat estranged Leia/Ben mother/son relationship but they work it out eventually. We always see in (male centered) action movies where the son forgive and became best buddy to their terrible non-exist father who divorced their mother when they’re little and never showed up since.
