I, for one, want a good back story about Kylo Ren and how he turned to the dark side.
There could be more layers than “he turned dark side because he think his parents neglected him”. However, it takes time to show that kind of transition so I don’t really hold up my hope because I remember how annoyed I felt about Anakin’s transition back in the prequel movies. He was written as a fucking arrogant brat and acted like everyone owes him shit. I hated him until I watch TCW but they have 5 seasons to build up his character change. I don’t dislike Kylo Ren but I can’t take him seriously and I’m afraid the new movie won’t change that.Agreed. Personally I love Anakin/Darth as a villain. Because you can see his reasoning behind everything. Sure he became arrogant but that was something consistent with his personality from when he was a kid. Let alone all the trauma he had gone through. He became an apprentice very old. And all his experiences until then are enough to shape a lot of his later personality. Being a slave, child labour, being mostly uneducated and living 0in a world that was cruel and out to get him…
And then his mother died and he felt like he could’ve done more. He felt as powerless as he felt when he was a slave.
It s a tragic story. He still became. A mass murderer nothing is excused BUT his redemption was well earned.
Not only did he loose everyone he loved, and loose his own body, he spent the rest of his life suffering horribly both from. Guilt and pain. His redemption came after suffering, after realising what he d done.
His actions are not justified but his reasons are too complex to be written off as undeserving.
Kyloe on the other hand has literally no excuse. Even if his parents neglected him he has no reason to turn that dark and even kill his father.
For. Anakin it took a horrible. Childhood l, careful manipulation, a complex scheme to remove all his positive figures in order to turn him to the dark side.

One thing that made Anakin’s fall understandable is that in TCW cartoon, you can see that he is slowly broken by the war and the system (both the Jedi Order and the Republic were all kinds of fucked up) but none of that was shown (or done well) in the movies. Unfortunately, most dark side characters in the SW movies are pretty one dimensional, which is common back in the 70′s, even early 2000′s, I guess, but I’d expect more in 2017. Not to mention that Kylo is Leia and Han’s son, he needs better character depth.
