Originally it wasn’t supposed to devour the sun, but to consume dark matter from elsewhere, when there was enough dark matter it would obscure the sun. For some reason this was changed to it being a sun eater (as I recall).
hmm, using dark matter makes more sense actually, but i guess it doesn’t look as cool as draining a sun
