Behold, a 120+ year old rhododendron
They rarely grow into anything larger than a shrub, let alone a tree!
They do, depending on the breed. The big ones are from the mountain area of the China-Myanmar boarder. Western colonizer (I’m looking at you, UK) cut down and shipped lot of those precious hundred years old tree to their countries.
What the fuck are u serious
Yes, especially this guy: George Forrest. He went there looking for “exotic” plants to ship back to the UK for their gardens. The Chinese sites all said he cut down a 25m tall, 280 years old
rhododendron
tree so that he can get a log specimen back to the British Museum. Of course the West praised him as a hero and “botanist”. Lol he’s more like a plant thief, typical of 19th century western colonizer.
More than 70 years after his “finding”, the chinese scientists found a wild colony of the
rhododendron
tree in the same area, which is believed to be the only (or one of the very few) known wild population in the world. They say some of the trees might be 500+ years old.
