Am I the only one who thought that when Strange said “it was the only way” he meant them losing was the only way?
Like he never actually saw them winning, it would always end in defeat but they had to try at least
This could go along with some theories saying that Tony has to live in order to die later and that will help keep everyone safe.
I’m thinking it may be true given its the end of t MCU as we’ve come to know it and knowing how much respect everyone has for Iron Man who basically started this, I think they’ll want to give a good farewell for the character.
I’m guessing that Strange saw versions of them winning with Tony dying, so he warned tony that when it comes to saving him over the stone he will not hesitate. Of course he also mentioned Peter to show he was serious.
So in his visions Tony dies and everyone is saved but he dies differently. Not on that planet. Not before something happens first.
Maybe he gets the gauntlet or maybe he does sth and he needs to complete it before he dies.
So strange tries to keep am unattached attitude because he knows Tony has to die, but grows to like him and also knows its not how he dies so he saves him.
Who knows…
This also calls back to Dr. Strange movie where he learned to lose in order to win, so it’s actually quite neat.
Strange probably also saw Tony’s quality after the >1000000 possibilities, and to Strange, it’s like he had fought with Tony for years, that’s why he called his name instead of just Stark after that.
