The one thing that possibly bothers me about “deviancy” in D:BH is that once a bot becomes deviant, the task descriptions never change. The whole thing about deviancy is that the individual becomes self-aware, but the code still says things as “protect Alice” and not “‘I’ need to protect Alice”, its “Find thing to smash thing with” and not “‘I’ need to find thing”. Connor becoming deviant is so well shown by him taking a gasp and the line “I am deviant" appearing, why not continue with that.

I haven’t thought of this! This is a subtle thing in english but yeah,
I did got the shock of Connor’s line

but didn’t notice it’s because of the “I” in that sentence. Once you pointed that out, the significance is huge.

My biggest problem about deviancy is how the general population of android simply being switched from mindless robotic servant of human to mindless robotic servant of Markus. They don’t show any struggle or confusion or any actual emotion except the same drone like “follow Markus and yell freedom slogan” behavior. It sort of ruined the mood. Even Bryan said it’s over-simplified when he played the part (bless him and Amelia). Personally, I’d like the game focus more on individuals since you can’t possibly write event of such a huge scale in 1/3 of the story line in one game. And I’d like to see the differences between different models. It would be interesting to see not every model has the same level of self-awareness. I think models whose original function is to interact with human can reach self-awareness more easy, but those who don’t probably don’t have the hardware and/or software complex enough to be self aware. It can also explain the difference between Kara’s more code-like inner thought, while Connor’s clear conscious of “I”, and it’s a great way to explore where the line of “become human” blurs.

Indeed!

On second thought maybe they didn’t include it in the tasks to simplify them for the person playing, but it would have definitely been a nice touch to actually give it a meaning!

Thats an awesome thought! That maybe Connor reached that level due to him being a significantly more intelligent prototype, or that the earlier android variants suffer the lack of experiencing “fully becoming human”, as you said! This makes me wonder, if Markus is an
RK200, and since the numbers go up per new android versions, does that make him an earlier prototype? if so, how do his ideals differ from Connor’s? How much are they refined compared to an android with a superior processor?

The freedom march is definitely.. something. Markus and Connor being able to “wake” up androids (so much so as by just reaching out to them remotely), Markus being a gifted product to Carl, and the whole ordeal about Kamski helping deviants to rise up, so he can take control again and wipe them out? Kind of a strange scenario, i hope it gets a more thorough explanation in the next game.

To be honest, I’d rather they focus the big plot on Kamski vs Cyberlife and their machination. Kamski relies on an event that may not happen in order to get rid of Cyberflife is a bit weird but it can just be his experimental and chaotic nature. It would be super interesting for Markus to realize that he is simply a pawn and his freedom act is just a wild gamble of another human. That’s double existential crisis for him.

I got the feeling that the RK line is a Cyberlife exclusive series with limited production number and are for Cyberlife’s use only. They are probably more advanced than the other mass produced market lines.
But
I don’t think the technical difference between Markus and Connor is very big. Markus was made by Kamski himself, I think he is a top notch model despite being an earlier RK prototype. Him being a personal project also means Kamski was able to sneak more stuffs into Markus too. That’s probably why only Markus got the converting ability?

If Conner was based largely on Markus after Kamski left, and the other techs didn’t bother to modified the RK line’s software blue print in detail,
either because Kamski didn’t share all his secret, or the other techs simply can’t fully grasp it, it made sense that Connor also got Markus’ converting power and the “back door” which are hidden deep in Kamski’s coding.

I bet if Kamski made a super neat and well organized coding file of his original RK, the later developers probably won’t bother comb through his every code, they’ll simply modify the source code a bit to make a model that meet their expectation: If they want a detective model, they’ll simply add more analytical tools, nothing innovative. If they want the RK800 to be cool headed but still able to integrate, they’ll simply damp down the emotional section and enhance the logical section, but the source coding are still there and will take over when receiving enough stimulation, which is why Connor showed software instability early on
(being with Hank doesn’t help).

Also, I wonder: does Cyberlife even run by human? Amanda is an AI, but does she follow her human CEO’s order? Or this whole send Connor and solve the deviants problem is her own action? There’s big difference between the two…

I really love your explanation, i have nothing that questions it!

I do not know either, but she is narrating real time events happening outside of the mind space, so there might be an unseen remote connection she is communicating through to HQ.
Despite it being Amanda’s plan to let our Connor be compromised, the other Connor tried to sabotage the rest of said plan, so maybe each “Amanda” does not communicate things through with each other. Unless, of course, it was all part of the plan.

(thinking that the non-compromised Connor was supposed to swap place with ours to trick Markus before neutralizing him, but thats just my own hunch, idk why the hell he would have been needed for the story otherwise)

I adore this though, thank you for the awesome ideas!

@eabevella idk if this is what it means but if so, then it seems like a connection to our discussion.

Ohhhhh looks like our speculation is not far off. The RK series is special.

Or maybe Amanda talks to different Connor pretending she’s special? Like opening different chatroom with different people online. She monitors our Connor when she talks with him, if any thing goes specious, she’ll activate a new RK-800 standing by to replace him.

Speaking of Connor army, I just saw someone draw a scene where Hank has to kill fake Connor one after another one, trying to find his real Connor, but is also afraid that he has made a mistake and kill the real one. That’s nightmarish: https://twitter.com/orgo_ryuga/status/1014127645351526400
