So anyone else here seen “The Mist”? All I could think of when I saw this…
This is so cool can someone explain the scientific phenomena behind this?
Just checked, this is a shelf cloud, a type of arcus cloud that usually signals the coming of severe weather. This is actually fairly normal behavior for shelf clouds, I think it’s just that the video is really close to the squall so it looks extremely ominous.
Here are a few more examples of shelf clouds.
I saw one on an unguarded beach with my friend once. The shit is scary because it’s moving fast, by the time I knew it’s coming at us, there was a bit of distance between us and the beach entrence. The beach was enclosed by a small erosion cliff so if it flooded, we’re dead trapped. We got out of the beach just in time and it’s fun riding a scooter under the storm (no really it’s fucking cold and dangerous)
