Eddie was being a dumbass and chased the symbiote away because he wanted to think alone and consider whether the symbiote influenced him into all the killing. The symbiote was SO ANGUISH AND DESPAIR, it cried out after it’s all alone. And its scream attracted an army of symbiote, ready to take over the Earth.

Later, Eddie (and Spiderman and Scarlet Spiderman) found Venom. Venom told them its story: it was deemed insane and was sentenced to death because instead of slaving and drying up it’s host, it wants a real bonding with the host.

It didn’t tell Eddie because it’s ashamed and afraid that Eddie would reject it if he knows.

THE WAY THE ACTUAL PANEL IS WRITTEN MADE ME FEEL SO BAD.

They can’t fight all the symbiotes invading Earth, but they thought of a way that might stop them. Eddie and the symbiote decide to recreate the symbiote’s psychic scream and amplify it’s feeling, so that the other symbiotes might be stunned by the overstimulation.

And of course they choose the very church they met to perform the act.

But the way the panels were drawn… yeah,
the letter said they are reacreating the agony of their seperation, BUT IT LOOKED MORE LIKE THEY WERE HAVING THE BEST SEX AND REACHING THE BEST CLIMAX THEY’VE EVER HAD (in a church too, that’s kinky)

AND THROUGH THE RITUAL, THEIR SPIRITS BECOME ONE.

Look at these panels, the focus on their touching hands and the tendril reaching for Eddie’s lips. With the symbolism of the church…

After their… becoming, the other symbiotes can’t stand the live broadcasting of their bonding and all exploded. Earth saved. But that’s not the point.
