venom’s original villain days. that’s it! nothing else is obligatory! michelinie establishes their characters and it’s crucial context for everything else.

people are turned off by the concept of Seeing Their Babies As Villains, i think, but… don’t be? they’re not exactly presented as pure evil and they definitely aren’t one-dimensional. it’s more that they’re deeply, relentlessly, stubbornly misguided. they start chasing spider-man around as a shitty coping mechanism, while doing so they develop a moral code for themselves that keeps them from feeling too bad about it, eventually their pain fades and so their moral code starts meaning more to them than killing spider-man. it’s a remarkably elegant villain to anti-hero transition.

what’s also important is that eddie and the symbiote are intended as equally sympathetic – the symbiote more so, if anything. they’re caught in an echo chamber where they’re encouraging the worst in each other, but the symbiote is unambiguously a vulnerable person, not a mere corrupting force, and their bond  develops to the point where they’re stranded on a deserted island and spend the whole time hilariously blissed out because they’ve got nothing better to do than revel in each other’s company.

it’s also plain not that serious and straight-up fun. they’re one big loud dumbass and one small quiet dumbass that get up to ridiculous antics as the world’s biggest and loudest dumbass. they’re scary, but not in a way that stops them from being weirdly adorable. they’ve got the funniest fucking attitude and are, in the end, much more of a menace to everyone around them than each other.

the heartwarming tale of two goofy villains motivated by despair sublimated into anger who team up in the pursuit of revenge but end up committing their lives to one another three times over without ever getting it, that’s michelinie canon.

comradewodka:

So, I recently took a trip to Japan– more general info/pictures on that to follow in its own post!– and I just had to share this unexpected discovery:

Japan loves Venom. Like. LOVES Venom.

I’d go into pop culture stores, and yeah Marvel and Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts, etc., would have their own robust little sections alongside popular Japanese properties, that’s totally understandable, but– that doesn’t explain entire store sections just. OVERFLOWING with Venom paraphernalia

My favorite thing I found was the display at a Kotobukiya which included a little glass box, a bunch of black goo splatted inside, and a little speech bubble that says “Where is Eddie?” on it. What. Adorable?? I can’t imagine a store employee would do that without feeling some genuine love and creativity for the IP.

The latter photos are all taken at a store called Yamishiroya, where our pal ヴェノム (“Benomu”) had taken up a big chunk of the stairwell and ‘international characters’ floor. I also saw a lot of Venom tees prominently displayed at thrift stores and stuff like that, but felt bad enough for coming to Japan and getting Venom merch without also coming home with a bunch of Venom pj shirts x’D

It makes me wonder how the Japanese localization of the movie was handled, and whether the Japanese fanbase also loves it because they interpret it as a monster rom com? Certainly, there were a lot more ‘cute’ Venom things over there (though that’s pretty typical for the market) and a lot of stuff featuring spiderman even though obviously Parker’s not involved in the most currently-relevant movie.

Anyway, just thought I’d share! Peace out, kids

Oh no the “where is Eddie?” box is too cute ;w;

This is part 5 of the Thanos Snap series and probably my favorite bit. Simply put, Venom eats Thanos and vengeance is had. This part can be read stand-alone, so no worries about not reading the rest of the series. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Rating: T

Word Count: ~300

Together and with the Titan down and beaten to within an inch of his life, Eddie and Venom raced forward. The purple alien was massive, even bigger than they were, but that was the farthest thing on their mind. Thanos could have been the size of a mountain and they would have found the strength to move the psycho who’d caused so much heartache and pain. Caused them so much heartache and pain.

With a snarl, their fingers curled around the Titan’s neck and although it put more strain on their body than they’d ever endured before, they howled and lifted him to his knees. Thanos groaned, head rolling slightly before eyelids sluggishly opened. A bleary gaze found theirs, but that was enough. Unlike some of the others, they didn’t need Thanos to be fully conscious. Just conscious enough for this.

“We’re sure there’s a line of people around the planet who’d kill to take a bite out of you, you ugly purple zit,” they spat, both Eddie and Venom thinking with one unified mind. Even as they said this, they saw the others running toward them. Some like the Hulk were coming at Thanos with nothing but vengeance and a deep, completely understandable need to rip the Titan’s hide off his back. Others like Captain America came in the name of justice, perhaps even to stop them. Eddie and Venom wouldn’t have long to do what they wanted to do. They might not even be able to finish.

But then again, they’d always liked a challenge. Their mouth split wide. Wider than they’d ever managed before.

“But they’ll have to settle for whatever we can’t choke down first.”

And wrenching their mouth open, they shoved Thanos’s head inside and sunk their teeth into the Titan’s neck, biting down as deep and as hard as they could until the felt the resistance of bone, then nothing at all.

It is ironic that the 2018 Movie Venom Universe made a completely new background story and set-up for the movie format but still manage to understand and keep some of the more important things that defines Eddie Brock as a character, such as his sense of (self) rightous and his goal-oriented mindset, while most of the post 90′s writers completely missed the point and wrote him either as a psychopath or a religious maniac.

enbiote:

reading the venom (2011) stuff and the thought of the 2018 run making the symbiote into a representation of addiction again is so frustrating to me cause like. agent anti-venom was RIGHT there

– flash already has a history with addiction (and eddie doesn’t fit the necessary archetype as well as flash, esp considering his attitude in many of the 90s arcs)
– the anti-venom power isn’t a symbiote (aka A Sentient Being), therefore you don’t have to keep it sedated or have a narrative of it being inherently violent/needing to be Controlled in order for it to fit the metaphor
– flash’s body doesn’t produce the anti-venom naturally, and it seems he ran out of it a whole lot faster than eddie did, so he would need to receive more of the serum/acid/whatever the fuck– which, again, works a whole lot better towards the metaphor of getting a fix
– imo flash’s desire to continue being a superhero would easily lead to him returning to alchemax so he can continually refresh the anti-venom, while agreeing to do a lot of the kind of morally grey stuff as payment like what eddie did for the company in the past. esp when you consider the contrast between flash’s goals and eddie’s

anyways. symbiote rights!

Thank You!

Spread this message. If you’ve had content flagged you need to check if Tumblr has muted your blog. Your posts will still show up on the dash of followers but your most recent posts will be from hours ago (up to 48 hours prior) on your actual blog URL. Make a test post and post it to your blog. Go to your blog url in an incognito window and see if the post you just made can be seen. If it can you’re good. If not Tumblr has muted your blog.

Check your blogs lads. Just in case.

I honestly don’t know if this is a bug or what. I hope it’s a bug. But at least by checking you will know there is an issue.

Yeah, since two of my posts on this blog had been flagged (unflagged now), it seems that my tumblr has been muted. Accessing my page through an incognito window these are my last posts:

image

Meaning both artworks I uploaded yesterday as well as THIS post here doesn’t show up at all on my blog. Probably only temporarily on you guys’s dashboards.

This only means that:

ARTISTS YOU LIKE NEED YOUR LIKES AND REBLOGS MORE THAN EVER NOW!!! Please reblog and like as much as you can from artists you enjoy, make their content be seen!

Also turn on notifications so you don’t miss the posts!

The same happened to @friend-todoroki so please, help us and spread our works! ❤

Thank you!

EDIT:

It seems that ADDITIONALLY to the mutes there is also a bug going around that causes RECENTLY UN-FLAGGED posts to appear FIRST on your blog.

THEN, on Page 2 the regular blog begins. That’s the case for me. So maybe I am not muted after all, it’s still strange to see such a heavy decline in notes, so something MUST be up.

Just as a heads up that IF you do the ‘incognito test’ please also check page 2!!

GOD FUCKING DAMN IT. I AM wondering the same exact fucking thing because I AM having exactly the same fucking problem.

I can see my post on my dash but not on my blog page.
