The Art of Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Caretakers (Lanais), art by Chris Weston.
“Chris Weston turned out to be brilliant at doing the Caretakers. I gave him some rough sketches and some reference material; I wanted them to look like nuns. I told him about the Powell and Pressburger film Black Narcissus, a Deborah Kerr movie where she plays a nun. I didn’t want them all exactly the same. I wanted different aprons. There’s a The Sound of Music feeling about them. He worked on the females first because they were whom you see first and they’re more important in the story. I asked Chris to do different activities, so Rian would have the ability to think about that and choose – so that the Caretakers would not just be standing there in the background, but engaged and doing things.” – Michael Kaplan,
