I’ve never read any comics or books about Luke but I got the feeling that there must be things that affected Luke that even he was overtaken by the fear of the dark side for a moment.
I mean, everyone thinks Luke is this perfect hero, that he can’t have any darkness, but he is only human, and he was researching things regarding the Jedi and the Force after Episode 6. He only had himself to
consultant
about an ancient religious system and it’s philosophy. Not to mention that the light side and dark side force temples can actually affect people. Even the Jedi temples are not “friendly“ and it’s shown in the cartoon that padawans would actually die if they fail the temple’s test. I kind of suspect that Luke was unknowingly being affect by the temple he opened school in, maybe he was dealing with the influence of the dark side himself, and after fully knew what kind of terrible things his father had done, it makes sense that he would be afraid of the dark side to the point that he was tempted to kill Ben when he’s being wavered by Snoke.
I mean everyone kind of brushed off Vader as “he’s once good, but he turned evil” to Luke in the old movie, it’s understandable that Luke’s thoughts about Vader was more simple and he wanted to save Vader. But if Luke dug out more Jedi history or knew the extend of Vader’s “turned evil” means to the whole galaxy, he would probably felt conflict about it (did he and Leia ever talked about it in any of the novel/comics?)
There is a huge character gap between Episode 6 Luke and pre episode7 Luke, I don’t think it is impossible that Luke would have some dark thoughts but there should be some developments/hints in between.
My grammar is terrible I should stop lol but this is my take on Luke’s behavior.
I’d watch a movie about Luke after Episode 6 and is played by Sebastion Stan.
Just watched The Last Jedi. IT’S SO GOOD I WAS IN TEARS. We applauded several times in the theater, which is a rare thing in Taiwan (we are usually quiet, laughing is usually the only thing we do)

Poe is the son Leia deserves. I like that he does have flaws, he thinks and acts like an one man army because he has the skills, which is great as a soldier but Leia hopes he can be more. He learned to retreat, to think more than “blast this ship”. I hope he’ll take the leader role in the next episode.
I wonder how they round up Leia’s story in her absence… she is the heart of the Resistance…
Leia can use the Force!!! That scene in the space is so beautiful but terrifying too. For a moment I thought she’s dead. Don’t scare me like that.
Why they have to kill Ackbar… he’s like… always there…
Luke’s story is the most heart wrenching. It’s where I got teared up. I think with a limited time, they did give the background story between Luke and Ben Solo a tragic and sufficient twist. It is sad that even Luke can be taken over buy fear and had a dark moment. Even though he changed his mind but it’s too late and turned out to be the worst case scenario. No wonder he felt responsible.
Luke’s last moment though. He pulled an Obi-Wan Kenobi that is 1000 times sassier than Obi-Wan Kenobi which probably cannot be surpassed.
How powerful is Luke that he can force-broadcast himself across the galaxy??? And he can actually touch things with his force-projection???
Kylo Ren. I think seeing Luke trying to kill him as the last straw to push him to the dark side is a much more convincing reason than what they said on the interviews.
Rey had such an emotional ride through the movie. I like that even though she was willing to reach out to Kylo Ren and offered hope after she learned the whole story between Kylo and Luke, she’s not swayed when Kylo Ren asked her to join him to the dark side. It’s good to see that she has moments of confusion, sadness, and weakness, but she still sticks to the right choices.
I wonder if Rey counts as a Jedi-Jedi since what she learned from Luke is not really about Jedi but the force itself.
Interestingly I think Kylo really wants Rey to be with her, not even in a romantic sense but in more of a force companion (??) sense. But I think Rey is more like… she can get why Kylo become what he is but it’s not enough to convince/convert her.

Rose’s story made me want to cry. She lost so much but she still kept fighting.
Finn is so determined and brave. I know he and Rose’s plan didn’t work in the end because some bastard betrayed them but I don’t think that’s the point of his story. He was willing to risk everything and go back to a place he wanted to flee in the last film just to give the others a chance of survival. I was so worry when he almost did a suicide crush to the ram-cannon.
Finn smacked Phasma right in the head. Stars above, that must felt so good.
